आराम हराम इस वजह से है क्योंकि हम उन सभी चीजों से वंचित रह जाते हैं जो हमें जागते वक्त मिल सकती थीं।

उदाहरण के लिए, एक व्यक्ति नौकरी से आने के बाद थोड़ा मनोरंजन करता है और उसके बाद वह सो जाता है। वह व्यक्ति सोचता है कि काश नौकरी ना होती, दिनभर छुट्टी होती तो मैं कुछ कार्य कर सकता था, अपना व्यापार भी बाजू में चला सकता था।

अब आता है रविवार, जो कि है छुट्टी का दिन‌। पर इस दिन वह व्यक्ति कोई और व्यापार शुरू करने की बजाय आराम करने लगे, तो ना तो वह काम के दिनों का मजा ले पाया और ना ही वह छुट्टी के दिन का मजा ले पाया। छुट्टी के दिन का मजा तो पूरे दिन भर काम करने से आता है ना कि उसे दिन हम आराम फरमाने लगें।

इसीलिए तो कहा है कि आराम हराम है। आराम करते समय की बातें हमें याद ही नहीं रहतीं। इसके विपरीत यदि हम जागते रहते हैं तो सब अनुभव हमारे मस्तिष्क में इकट्ठे होते रहते हैं। इसलिए आराम को छोड़कर व्यक्ति को श्रम करना चाहिए।
